Accessibility

This site should work for you whether you read it with your eyes, listen to it, drive it from the keyboard, or need the text bigger than we drew it. Where it falls short of that, we would rather hear about it and fix it than leave you guessing.

The short version

  • We build this site to aim at WCAG 2.1 Level AA, the usual yardstick for a public website.
  • We are partly there, not fully. No independent auditor has signed this site off, and we are not going to claim otherwise.
  • The things we know are not right yet are listed further down, in plain terms.
  • If something on this site blocks you, email or call and we will sort it out — and get you the information another way in the meantime.

What is built in

None of this is a certificate. It is a list of decisions already made in the build, so you know what to expect before you run into it.

Keyboard and focus

Every link, button and form field can be reached with the Tab key, and the one that has focus draws a visible ring. We never switch that ring off to tidy up a design — if you are navigating by keyboard, you can always see where you are.

Motion

Sections fade in gently as you scroll. If your computer or phone is set to reduce motion, that is respected and the animation does not run — the content is simply there. Nothing on this site flashes, auto-plays or moves on a loop.

Structure and text

Pages use real headings in order, so a screen reader can jump between sections instead of reading everything. Images carry text alternatives. Text is set in relative units, so it scales when you zoom the page or raise your browser’s font size rather than clipping.

Colour

The palette was chosen for contrast against each background it sits on, and no instruction on this site depends on colour alone — a link is underlined or labelled, not just tinted.

What we know is not right yet

A statement that lists nothing wrong is not an honest statement. These are the gaps we are aware of today.

  • No independent audit. This site has been checked by the people who built it, not by an outside specialist, and it has not been tested end to end with a screen reader by someone who relies on one daily.
  • The forms are a plugin. The contact and quote forms come from third-party software. We have set the labels and error messages up properly, but we do not control every line of its markup, and an update can change it.
  • Drawings are not accessible documents. Floor plans, elevations and the PDF sets we issue are visual technical documents. A screen reader cannot usefully read a plan. If you need the content of a drawing described, ask and we will walk you through it.
  • Project photography. Alternative text on portfolio images describes what the project is. It does not describe every architectural detail in the frame.

This list gets shorter as things are fixed, and the date at the top moves when it does. If you find something that is not on it, you have found something we did not know about — please tell us.

Calling is fine, and often faster. You do not have to use a form to reach us.

Tell us the page you were on and what got in your way — that is enough, you do not need the technical words for it. We reply within two business days, and if a fix will take longer than that, we will say so and get you what you were after by email or over the phone in the meantime.

This applies to the work as much as the website. If you need a drawing set, a scope or a quote in a format that works better for you, ask — that is a normal request, not a special one.
